Brief history of B17/4's

4-6-0 B17/4 'Footballer' Class

The B17/4's were part of the 'Sandringham' class built for use on the ex Great Central lines and were coupled to standard LNER 4,200 gallon tenders.

The naming of this sub-class differed from the rest as they were named after English football clubs in the LNER area.

The Prints

This series of Limited Edition prints is slightly different to the rest as the locomotives are printed to a scale of 6mm/ft, enabling printing in smaller numbers – Only 100 of each club.

This doesn't mean a drop in quality – these are the most detailed illustrations of the class available!

Paper Size: 450mm wide x 250mm deep (17.75"x 9.75").

Limited Edition Run: 100 of each*; all signed and numbered.

All 'Footballers' are shown in 'as built' condition (1936-37 LNER livery), this means Hull City and Leeds United have the old club colours on the splasher.

This batch of locomotives was built by Robert Stephenson & Co., Darlington. These varied from the ones built at the LNER Works and this is shown in the illustrations.
