No.32 – January 2009

The Web Site

Regular visitors to the site will notice it has been tweaked, with the main change being the menu which is now positioned on the left instead of at the top. Most web sites have it there and after a bit of experimentation the decision was taken to move it.

The re-design was to have gone live on the 1st January, but another change had to be made, so it was easier to put it all up earlier. Unfortunately there were problems with a few of the order buttons - now sorted - which meant purchase couldn't be made online. Many thanks to the two people who contacted me about this. As a thank you for taking the trouble to let me know of these problems they got a discount on the prints they were after.

Sir Nigel Gresley's 1959 Speed Record

I have made a major change to the print of Sir Nigel Gresley. I had produced 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley in LNER Blue with stainless steel lettering and numbers, but it dawned on me that 2009 would see the 50th anniversary of Sir Nigel Gresley's post-war steam traction record of 112 mph.

Sir Nigel Gresley, now numbered 60007, was chosen to haul the Stephenson Locomotive Society's 50th anniversary special from King’s Cross to Doncaster and back on 23rd May 1959. It was crewed by it’s regular driver Bill Hoole (who was a few weeks from retirement) and fireman Alf Hancox. On the return trip 112 mph was attained descending Stoke bank – setting the post-war record for steam traction.

To commemorate the event I have now produced an illustration showing Sir Nigel Gresley in the condition it made this run – BR Green with later crest, fitted with AWS and speedometer.

The print will be available from 7th May 2009, with the first print being allocated by draw visit the Sir Nigel Gresley page for details.

Further Changes to the A4 list

As Sir Nigel Gresley is now being produced in BR Green, rather than LNER Blue, I have decided to produce 4489 Dominion of Canada in 1938 LNER Coronation livery with its bell, Canadian Pacific Railway whistle, stainless steel strip, letters and numbers plus the Canadian coat-of-arms on the cab side. This has been requested by a few people so should be popular.

I shall be producing another A4 in BR Green, so keep the suggestions coming, especially if it's for my favourite – 60025 Falcon

2010 will see the 75th anniversary of Silver Link's record run, so this illustration will be available then. Silver Fox with modified buffers will follow.
