LNER A4 No.4468 Mallard

Congratulations to M. Owen who won the draw for Print Number One of Mallard - which took place on Thursday 21st February.

The previous week I was at the printers (Windsor Print Productions, Tonbridge, Kent) to oversee the printing of 4468 Mallard. Being there enables me to check the colour and ask for adjustments to be made if necessary.

Mallard being checked under daylight lamps during printing.

After printing they are left to dry for a couple of days before being trimmed to size. They are then packed and delivered. When received I go through them to check they are OK and sign the required amount.

This illustration shows 4468 Mallard in the condition it took the world record for steam traction in July 1938 - 70 years ago.

I hope to have news of the next A4 to be produced in the next newsletter.

The line drawings of this locomotive and tender have been completed. These show end and plan elevations as well as the the side elevation required for the 3D illustration.

loco

The drawing shows 34059 Sir Archibald Sinclair after rebuilding and fitted with AWS. The cab is correct for the early 8ft 6in wide version after conversion to 9ft wide - there are differences between this and the later locomotives built new with 9ft wide cabs!

Tender

This drawing shows a re-bodied 5,250 gallon tender, which was attached to 34059.
