2004 marks the 200th anniversary of the run of the first steam locomotive – Richard Trevithick’s Pen y Darren engine, 100 years since GWR 3717 City of Truro touched 100mph and 400 years since the first recorded tramway in Britain. To mark these events Railfest 2004 was held on a site adjacent to the Nation Railway Museum, York, from 29th May - 6th June 2004.

Blackmoor Vale was honoured by being asked to attend and made the trip north, along with NRM's Bulleid 0-6-0 Q1, which is also based on the Bluebell Railway, Sussex.
